100% Veteran Owned & Operated

Built by Those
Who Served.

Three veterans. Two branches of service. One mission — to build something worthy of the mountains they came home to, and the country they served.

The Founding Story

From the Field
to the Still.

Mountain Monarch Distillers was founded by a Montana native and military veteran whose loyalty to country and community runs bone-deep. High in the Highland Mountains above Butte — with bull elk bugling through the fall air — the vision took shape: build something that honors the wild spirit of Montana and the discipline of a life spent in service. What followed was years of research, distillery tours spanning 8 states and Scotland, and an unrelenting drive to get it right before a single bottle was ever filled.

He chose distilling because it demands the same values forged in uniform — precision, patience, discipline, and an absolute refusal to cut corners. He chose Montana because it is the home of the brave — a place that values strong work ethics and carries a grand sense of responsibility to one another.

He was soon joined by two others cut from the same cloth — a fellow Army veteran who served with the 75th Ranger Regiment, and a Navy man who sailed aboard USS Ross DDG-71. Two branches, three veterans, one standard: the same unbreakable discipline, brotherhood, and commitment to excellence that defined their service. The team is complete. The mission is clear.

Mountain Monarch Distillers is getting ready to open its doors — and when that day comes, it will have been earned. Every bottle carries that story. It's more than spirits — it's proof that the mission continues.

The Service Behind the Spirit

What We Carried Home.

The values that define Mountain Monarch weren't learned in a classroom or a boardroom. They were forged in training, tested in the field, and carried home by three men who refused to leave them behind.

10th Mountain Division · 1-87 Infantry

"Vires Montesque Vincimus"

"We conquer strength and mountains"

The 10th Mountain Division is one of the most decorated combat divisions in U.S. Army history — trained to fight in the harshest mountain terrain on earth. The same mountains that inspired the division's name are the mountains that inspired this distillery.

"Sua Sponte"

"Of their own accord"

Rangers are the Army's premier light infantry — selected, trained, and held to a standard that most never reach. The Ranger Creed isn't just words. It's a way of operating. That standard lives in every batch we produce.

The USS Ross has deployed across the globe in defense of freedom. The discipline, precision, and teamwork required aboard a warship at sea are the same qualities we demand of ourselves behind the still. No shortcuts. No excuses.

The Journey

How We Got Here

2019

The Idea Takes Root

High in the Highland Mountains above Butte, MT — with the ring of bull elk bugles echoing through the fall air — our founder had a vision. A Montana native and military veteran, he wanted to build something that honored two things he loved most: the wild spirit of the mountains and the discipline of a life spent in service. The idea for Mountain Monarch was born. Research into distilling and building a distillery begins.

2020

Learning the Craft

Our founder embarks on what becomes a years-long tour of local, national, and international distilleries — spanning 8 states and Scotland. Every still studied, every process observed, every lesson absorbed. The same obsessive attention to detail and mission-first mindset that served him in uniform was applied to mastering the craft. No shortcuts. No half measures. Just the work.

2023

Mountain Monarch Is Founded

Mountain Monarch Distillers is officially founded and established in Butte, MT. A second owner — a fellow veteran — completes his buy-in, deepening the partnership and strengthening the mission. Two men who served their country now committed to building something worthy of it. The foundation is set.

2024

Hands On the Still

Hands-on distilling courses begin. First experimental batches come off the still. Professional networking with fellow distillery owners across the region begins in earnest. A tasting room location is secured in Butte. The mission is taking shape — one step at a time.

2025

The Team Is Complete

The final owner — an Army Ranger of the 75th Ranger Regiment — completes his buy-in, bringing a Ranger's discipline, precision, and Sua Sponte mindset to the table. Three veterans. Two branches of service. One mission. The team is whole. Combined, they carry service across Army Infantry, Army Special Operations, and the United States Navy — and every ounce of that experience goes into every bottle.

2026

Opening — Stay Tuned

Mountain Monarch Distillers secures funding for equipment purchases, lease improvements, and supplies. The doors will open when the time is right — and the first official production spirit will be Mountain Monarch White Rum. The mission continues.

Distillery
How We Make It

The Process

No mystery. No magic. Just grain, water, fire, time — and an uncompromising standard applied at every step. The same way we operated in uniform.

01

Grain Selection

We source 100% Montana-grown grains — corn, rye, and malted barley — from farms within 150 miles of Butte. We know our farmers by name. That relationship matters. No anonymous supply chains. No compromises on quality.

02

Mashing & Fermentation

Each grain bill is cooked, cooled, and fermented with the same attention to detail we brought to every mission. Fermentation runs on its own timeline — never rushed. Patience is a military virtue. It's a distilling virtue too.

03

Hybrid & Pot Still Distillation

We distill using a combination of hybrid stills and traditional copper pot stills — giving us the flexibility to craft a diverse lineup while preserving the character and depth that only copper can deliver. Every cut is made by hand. Every decision is deliberate.

04

Barrel Aging & Bottling

New American oak barrels, #3 and #4 char. Our mountain warehouse sees dramatic temperature swings that accelerate maturation and deepen flavor. Every bottle is hand-filled, hand-labeled, and hand-numbered. When you open a Mountain Monarch bottle, someone's hands were on it.

What We Stand For

Our Values

Discipline

The military taught us that excellence is a habit, not an accident. We apply that standard to every batch, every barrel, every bottle — no exceptions, no excuses.

Integrity

No shortcuts. No additives. No misleading labels. What's on the bottle is exactly what's inside — nothing more, nothing less. We earned that standard in uniform. We keep it here.

Community

We hire veterans. We source local. We give back to Butte and to Montana. This distillery belongs to this community as much as it belongs to us. That's not a marketing line — it's a commitment.

Craft

We believe the best things in life are made by hand, with patience and purpose. The same care that goes into a well-executed mission goes into every pour. That's how we operate every single day.

Veteran Owned

We hire veterans. We support veterans. We are veterans.

Mountain Monarch was built from the ground up by those who served — Army Infantry, Army Special Operations, and the United States Navy. A portion of every bottle sold goes toward veteran support organizations in Montana. When you buy Mountain Monarch, you're supporting the people who served this country.
